Nintendorks is full of culture and art and stuff.
If you’re one of the truly blessed that reads the DRCs, you may remember a certain comment from reader Telstar about a documentary he directed after graduating film school.
The documentary followed the chiptune scene, and…ah what the hell, I’ll let Pitchfork do all the work:
Debuting at SXSW this year, director Paul Owens’ film Blip Festival: Reformat the Planet examines the world of chiptune, in which artists like Nullsleep, Martin Galway, and Rando– each part mad scientist, part composer– make original music on portable electronic devices from the past. Focusing on the 2006 Blip Festival, with additional interviews and performances, Blip Festival: Reformat the Planet offers a portrait of this strange and overlooked corner of the musical universe. The film comes courtesy of 2 Player Productions.
So there you have it! It’s free on Pitchfork.tv for this week only. Now when you watch the film, you can shout out to the emptiness around you, “Hey, I kind of know the guy that directed this!” The emptiness will not care.
