Rock Band 2 for Wii may have “features”
ired’s Chris Kohler seems to believe that the next edition of Rock Band for the Wii will have “features,” something the game lacked compared to its next-gen counterparts.
Kohler says that Harmonix told him the awesome game’s next Wii outing will be a “much more competitive product,” and that he “understood that this extended to things like downloadable content and online play.” Screw online play – the important thing here is downloadable content – Rock Band’s setlist has more than quadrupled since its release on Xbox 360 and PS3 last year, and it is set to eclipse five hundred fucking songs by year’s end.
This content has previously only been available on Wii in one lame-ass track pack, where you have to change discs and don’t get to pick and choose songs you like.
Unfortunately, Kohler is a bit light on the details, as well as named sources, so we don’t know if it will use the same hacky-sounding SD card-based method its competitor Guitar Hero: World Tour will use, nor do we know if all the DLC from the past year would be available from day one. Instrument compatibility beyond Rock Band instruments is also a cavern of mystery. What we do know is that it is coming out on Wii around Nov. 18 and it will have awesome songs in it.
One thing is clear: the Wii is a massive platform and there is money to be made, so it would be expedient in many ways for Harmonix to keep up with the Activisions and have a fully-featured Wii port this time around. Stay tuned, dear reader, stay tuned.
